DESCRIPTION:Live Music Australia – an Australian Government initiative\nFREE ENTRY\nThe Ten Cent Shooters is a Western Australian three-piece acoustic blues band\, playing in a style based on country blues\, a genre which combines traditional European styles and instruments with African-American derived rhythms and songs. \nCountry blues was amongst the first vernacular music recorded\, as the recording technology became widely available in the USA in the 1920s. These first recordings\, rediscovered and made popular amongst folk music enthusiasts in the 1960s\, are a window into a world of work songs\, love songs\, ballads\, spirituals and dance music played in community settings before radio and records changed the culture. \nThe band tries to remain faithful to the style of the early blues players but also has a unique sound which is popular with people of all ages and backgrounds as evidenced by strong CD sales\, airplay on ABC and public radio\, and great crowd response at live shows. The Shooters always talk a lot about the history and personalities of the early blues and can play quiet and intimate acoustic concert sets in small venues. Their presentation of this American music is very Australian. They can also play large dance stages and really get people moving. For 2019’s follow up\, ‘Chase the Sun’\, they drew from soul/funk/world music and added a slamming five-piece horn section. The title track is a collaboration with MC Optamus from WA hip hop legends\, Downsyde.\n\nSteve Hensby is a Berklee College of Music graduate and WAMI nominated musician who also works as a session player in the Perth area. Rastrick toured Australia with his solo show last year. In the trio\, David Rastrick (aka Dave Rastrix) fronts the group on vocals\, trumpet and flugelhorn\, while concurrently underpinning the sound with fretless bass. The flugelhorn is a type of trumpet with a warmer tone\, and made popular by trumpeters such as Chuck Mangione and Hugh Masekela. \n“I enjoy diversity in my life\,” said Dave Rastrick. “I like manifesting this in my music\, and draw from a heap of different musical styles to make an interesting repertoire.”\n \nKevin McDonald is one of the most in demand musicians in the south west\, with his command of guitar and bass in all jazz and contemporary styles and a diploma in classical guitar.  Kevin studied at the prestigious Berklee School of Music along with fellow Canadian musician Diana Krall. Kevin plays in about one-hundred duos\, several jazz bands\, country\, rock and soul bands\, and fronts his own guitar-frenzy surf music band ‘The Frothers’. \nRastrick and McDonald combine their diverse experience\, talents and musical passions to intersect in a rare musical meeting.
