DESCRIPTION:Live Music Australia – an Australian Government initiative\nFREE ENTRY\nDave Rastrix Trio play a mix of jazz-reggae and world-soul styles and is comprised of three busy session musicians\, who join together to play with the spirit of spontaneously and passion\, keeping listeners on the edge of their seats\, or dancing. \nDavid Rastrick is a trumpet player\, multiple instrumentalist and songwriter who has played with literally hundreds of bands throughout south-west Australia. Rastrick toured Australia with his solo show last year. In the trio\, David Rastrick (aka Dave Rastrix) fronts the group on vocals\, trumpet and flugelhorn\, while concurrently underpinning the sound with fretless bass. The flugelhorn is a type of trumpet with a warmer tone\, and made popular by trumpeters such as Chuck Mangione and Hugh Masekela. \n“I enjoy diversity in my life\,” said Dave Rastrick. “I like manifesting this in my music\, and draw from a heap of different musical styles to make an interesting repertoire.”\n \nKevin McDonald is one of the most in demand musicians in the south west\, with his command of guitar and bass in all jazz and contemporary styles and a diploma in classical guitar.  Kevin studied at the prestigious Berklee School of Music along with fellow Canadian musician Diana Krall. Kevin plays in about one-hundred duos\, several jazz bands\, country\, rock and soul bands\, and fronts his own guitar-frenzy surf music band ‘The Frothers’. \nRastrick and McDonald combine their diverse experience\, talents and musical passions to intersect in a rare musical meeting.

Weaving strands of Celtic and earthy\, trad-folk with warm and hearty three part vocal harmony\, they entertain with truly dance-able\, sing-able\, soul-warming music. \nThe ‘GypsyLou’ duo was formed in 2016 by singer/songwriters Carrie Lee and Katie McMahon. Having met in a choir where they both sang in the alto section\, they founded the duo on their love of singing in harmony together. GypsyLou quickly grew in popularity and released a six-track EP\, ‘Girl in Blue’\, in 2018.\nWishing to build on their sound\, they began to take on other musicians shortly afterwards. Matt Stapleton now joins them on fiddle\, Ross Daglish on the double bass and John ‘J.D.’ Donoghue on percussion. Together they are ‘Gypsylou and the Kingfishers’.
