DESCRIPTION:Live Music Australia – an Australian Government initiative\nFREE ENTRY\nThe Ten Cent Shooters is a Western Australian three-piece acoustic blues band\, playing in a style based on country blues\, a genre which combines traditional European styles and instruments with African-American derived rhythms and songs. \nCountry blues was amongst the first vernacular music recorded\, as the recording technology became widely available in the USA in the 1920s. These first recordings\, rediscovered and made popular amongst folk music enthusiasts in the 1960s\, are a window into a world of work songs\, love songs\, ballads\, spirituals and dance music played in community settings before radio and records changed the culture. \nThe band tries to remain faithful to the style of the early blues players but also has a unique sound which is popular with people of all ages and backgrounds as evidenced by strong CD sales\, airplay on ABC and public radio\, and great crowd response at live shows. The Shooters always talk a lot about the history and personalities of the early blues and can play quiet and intimate acoustic concert sets in small venues. Their presentation of this American music is very Australian. They can also play large dance stages and really get people moving. DESCRIPTION:Empire Blues is an established\, dynamic Blues Power trio whose primary influences come from the British Blues invasion of the 1960s. Initially the band took its material from this period\, but over time it has moved to performing more original material in the belief that for Blues music to evolve\, you cant keep just repeating the past. \nFormed in 2005 the band features prominent Western Australian Blues musicians: \nAndrew McIlroy (guitar/vocal) Alan Dawson (bass guitar/vocal) Frank Shinall (drums) \nAll three musicians have been stalwarts of the Perth music scene for many years. \nHigh-energy blues is very much the staple of the band\, which has a well-earned reputation for lifting the roof off many a blues venue. The band also brings together more traditional elements to many of its songs through the use of Dobro-slide guitar\, fretless bass and brushes on the drums for an acoustic (not roots) blues feel. \nTogether with great original tracks from their two full length CD releases\, Empire Blues (self Titled) & Blue Diamonds\, the band also covers material from\, John Mayall\, Eric Clapton/Cream\, The Rolling Stones\, Robin Trower\, The Animals and many other great British blues artists.
