DESCRIPTION:DOORS 9 PM / MUSIC 9.30PM \nFREE ENTRY \nAFRO ROOTS MUSIC \nSinger –songwriter\, talented drum-kit player and percussionist\, George Joe arrived in Australia in 1998 as a musical ambassador of Zimbabwe bringing with him the contemporary mix of Zimbabwean traditional mbira music (Chimurenga)\, Sungura\, Soca Beat\, Jit \, Kwassa Kwassa and Roots Reggae. \nShangara Jive music is written collaboratively on the foundations of Georges roots and culture\, the music takes its influences from traditional mbira (thumb piano)\, drumming and dancing troupes in Zimbabwe with musical flavours influenced from the Congo\, South Africa and Senegal . Songs are sung in English and Shona and reflect themes of day to day living in Africa\, African traditions and culture\, education for African youth\, political impacts on African societies\, and the joy of music. \nGeorge formed the band ‘African Music Congress’ shortly after arriving in Australia in 1998\, and this band went on to win ‘Best World Music Act’ in the Western Australian Music Industry Awards. for the four following years. \nGeorge formed Shangara Jive in 2002 and since then they have played hundreds of shows and supported many international acts such as Yousou ‘n’ Dour (Senegal)\, Thomas Mapfumo (Zimbabwe)\, Ozomatli (USA)\, Oliver Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe) and Malaika (South Africa). \nShangara Jive released the EP Play with Fire in 2004 and launched their latest full length album\, Melody\, in 2012 with sponsorship and support from Radio RTR 92.1 FM ‘s Fresh Blast program and Healthways Western Australia. \nThe band’s lively show is all about the heavy melodic grooves founded on the mbira and african percussion. This sets the stage for a very entertaining\, exciting and interactive experience which appeals to all ages\, backgrounds and cultures. \nAnd now joined with \nRumbie Tavaziva is a fantastic singer and songwriter from Zimbabwe. She has worked with many leading Zimbabwean artists including Chiwoniso Maraire\, with whom she toured to festivals across Europe\, Mauritius and South Africa. Rumbie recently arrived in Australia and is immediately playing live with the authentic Shangara Jive\, one of Perth’s premier Zimbabwean bands.

DESCRIPTION:Since embarking on a solo career in early 2018\, Emjay Angeni has melted hearts and captured imaginations throughout Australasia with her relaxed brand of coastal roots/pop and affable nature both on and off stage. \nInfluenced by the likes of Jack Johnson\, Ben Harper\, Donavon Frankenwrieter and Norah Jones; Emjay weaves a blend of her own original songs\, interpretations of crowd favourites and spontaneous stories which blend to casually invite her audiences to relax\, smile and engage with each other as well as her performance – and all with an ease you might feel if you were sat for a cup of tea in her living room. \nThis point of difference has seen her become a sought-after act by many West Australian venues of note\, including residencies playing six nights per week\, for months on end at famous locations such as El Questro Station and Lake Argyle Resort. \nEmjay has appeared at Nukara\, WAM Fest and Fluffstival music festivals as a solo artist\, supported acts the likes of Saritah\, Juzzie Smith\, Karin Page and Little Quirks\, and also performs as one half of folk duo “Moon & Honey” with her partner Dan White – who opened Good Day Sunshine Festival October 2020\, performing with the likes of John Butler\, Xavier Rudd\, Eskimo Joe\, and Vicki Thorne. \nIn addition to this Emjay appeared as a feature vocalist with Fluid Groove act “Blue Child Collective” who were awarded “Best Regional Act” at the 2019 West Australian Music Awards and were regulars on the festival and international touring circuit -recently playing NZ Spirit Fest\, Bendigo Blues and Roots\, Nannup Music Festival\, Nukara Music Festival and having supported such acts as Xavier Rudd\, Sticky Fingers and The Cat Empire.

DESCRIPTION:The Big Town Players have emerged in the last seven years as the wild card on the local Perth blues circuit with the international sound. Part Muddy Waters\, part Billy Thorpe\, the old school R & B\, pub rock\, soul and blues influences are undeniable. This is energetic\, Chicago style harmonica driven rock and roll that is perfect to dance to. Sporting a big fat\, raucous\, electric bar room sound and great songwriting\, the Big Town Players have carved out a following that enjoy a lusty live delivery and traditional blues sound with a rock and roll edge. Following appearances at the Bridgetown Blues festivals in 2017 & 2018\, the band released its first album “BIG TOWN” in January of 2019 at the Perth Blues Club to some acclaim. Subsequently the album debuted at #8 on the Australian Blues and Roots Airplay charts (ABARAC) and stayed for a mighty 6 mths. In 2021 BTPs released their second album ‘OTHER SIDE OF TOWN’ that reached #3 on the (ABARAC) charts.

They are currently performing a collection of songs from some of the great bands of the last 60 years specialising in high energy guitar rhythms\, powerful vocals and harmonica all driven along by Ben Lawrence’s rock-solid beats. Whether playing 60’s\, 70’s\, 80’s\, 90’s\, 21st century or blues\, 43 Cambridge have always been able to tailor a set list thanks to front man Ray’s keen ability to read a room. \n43 Cambridge have played across Australia… from singing for their supper at Eucla Roadhouse\, to shutting down production at Murrin Murrin mine. They’ve played at The Espy in St Kilda\, Settlers Tavern in Margaret River\, Broome\, Adelaide\, Fremantle\, Sydney Wagga Wagga\, Exmouth\, Kalgoorlie\, Albany\, and most places in between. Pubs\, clubs\, weddings\, parties\, corporate and festivals. They’ve played to crowds of ten to ten thousand. \nAlthough a rock ‘n roll act (described as Perth’s ‘Black Crowes’ by Jim from ‘Blue Shaddy’) they have been regulars at the Perth Blues Club\, recording a live album there\, “Too Fast For Blues” which led to appearances at The Bridge Town Blues Festival and West Coast Blues and Roots Festival.
