SUMMARY:SHANGARA JIVE
DESCRIPTION:DOORS 9 PM / MUSIC 9.30PM \nFREE ENTRY \nAFRO ROOTS MUSIC \nSinger –songwriter\, talented drum-kit player and percussionist\, George Joe arrived in Australia in 1998 as a musical ambassador of Zimbabwe bringing with him the contemporary mix of Zimbabwean traditional mbira music (Chimurenga)\, Sungura\, Soca Beat\, Jit \, Kwassa Kwassa and Roots Reggae. \nShangara Jive music is written collaboratively on the foundations of Georges roots and culture\, the music takes its influences from traditional mbira (thumb piano)\, drumming and dancing troupes in Zimbabwe with musical flavours influenced from the Congo\, South Africa and Senegal . Songs are sung in English and Shona and reflect themes of day to day living in Africa\, African traditions and culture\, education for African youth\, political impacts on African societies\, and the joy of music. \nGeorge formed the band ‘African Music Congress’ shortly after arriving in Australia in 1998\, and this band went on to win ‘Best World Music Act’ in the Western Australian Music Industry Awards. for the four following years. \nGeorge formed Shangara Jive in 2002 and since then they have played hundreds of shows and supported many international acts such as Yousou ‘n’ Dour (Senegal)\, Thomas Mapfumo (Zimbabwe)\, Ozomatli (USA)\, Oliver Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe) and Malaika (South Africa). \nShangara Jive released the EP Play with Fire in 2004 and launched their latest full length album\, Melody\, in 2012 with sponsorship and support from Radio RTR 92.1 FM ‘s Fresh Blast program and Healthways Western Australia. \nThe band’s lively show is all about the heavy melodic grooves founded on the mbira and african percussion. This sets the stage for a very entertaining\, exciting and interactive experience which appeals to all ages\, backgrounds and cultures. \nAnd now joined with \nRumbie Tavaziva is a fantastic singer and songwriter from Zimbabwe. She has worked with many leading Zimbabwean artists including Chiwoniso Maraire\, with whom she toured to festivals across Europe\, Mauritius and South Africa. Rumbie recently arrived in Australia and is immediately playing live with the authentic Shangara Jive\, one of Perth’s premier Zimbabwean bands.

SUMMARY:CHRIS ARCHEE
DESCRIPTION:Chris Archee (Chris Archibald) is one of the most respected members of the WA music scene. He has always believed in the power of artists putting their all into the place they grew up in and passing knowledge to the next generation. This has seen Archee play and create across multiple genres and acts spanning a 3-decade career. He now gives back to his beloved southwest community by creating and running both private music courses and productions as well as passing his skills to the next generation at Margaret River TAFE. Also look out for the official release of his music label Boogaloo Robot in late 2024. \nContinuing on with his current love for crafting electronic elements with organic sounds\, his new track “Little House” is now available on all streaming platforms and iTunes. With the success of 2022 alternative electronic album “Synaesthesia” after receiving 15k streams on You Tube during the live stream as well as playlist recognition across Spotify expect new music spanning multiple styles in 2024. His “Groove Universe” DJ series on Mixcloud has received top 20 charting in hip hop soul and are now available on Soundcloud. His new series 42The Floor will again show why Archee is one of the most in demand DJs in the Southwest for both laid back Sundays and sweaty late nights. \nAlways with the idea that DJs are there to serve the music\, and musicians work for the crowd\, this diverse artist has worn many hats during his career. \nBeginning in the 90’s with art metal and funk rock acts Diatribe and Fluid Time Carnival as songwriter singer and guitar player\, Archee discovered his love of electronic music production around 98. A fan \n\n\n\n\n\n\nfirst and foremost his foray into DJing and production was born from dancing at all night raves\, and amazing festivals. \nWith his bands dissolving\, he formed the cutting-edge electronic act Tungtide in 2003 with his long- time collaborator Dan Anderson. After getting attention including supporting the likes of John Course and getting added to TV shows such as MotorGirls\, the pair decided to put Tungtide on sabbatical and push forward with their new outfit\, 2 Fat DJs. “2Fats” soared quickly becoming a staple of the Perth club\, festival and party scene playing along the likes of Chris Carter\, Mind Electric and Young MC amongst others. Their debut single “Heatstroke” achieved national success with JJJ airplay and being rated by Radio Funktrust (Will Styles and Learned Hand) as one of the top 10 electronic songs on Unearthed\, being described as “pure breakbeat goodness”. After Archee moved down to the Southwest the duo continued to wow crowds with their “tandem technique” technique on the decks\, where they organically mixed using 4 arms and two brains. The acts final show was closing Southbound festival 2013 in front of 5000 punters. \nWith a new down south perspective Archee has had many forms and names since calling the Southwest home. In 2016 he decided the best way to be solo was to rename and rebrand with his persona front and centre. Since then\, he has played over 1000 shows across the southwest and Perth\, and also a London show playing for Dim Sum London. This has included playing with Mad Professor\, Dr Packer and Casual Connection. He has also released a number of singles including being picked up by German label Bring New Unity for his laid-back hip-hop number “Light in The Rain”. \nArchee’s DJ sets span multiple genres\, running for a minimum of 3 hours where he blends jazzy hip hop with classic rap\, then moves into up-tempo styles including house\, breakbeat drum and bass and everything in between. His mantra is to play for the crowd\, while challenging his skills of 24 years as a professional DJ to raise the crowd to new heights of love\, energy and happiness. \nA master of live looping and 4 tracks mixing\, a three-hour set is something to enjoy for both fans of dancing as well as the technical art of true DJing.

SUMMARY:SOUTH 76 & DAVE KENT
DESCRIPTION:The band South 76 emerged from the sun-kissed coast of Western Australia\, where the sea meets the rugged landscapes\, and the sound of country music resonates through the hills. Led by Jon Veitch’s heartfelt songwriting and soulful vocals\, South 76 is a band that embodies the spirit of camaraderie and musical exploration. \nIt all began in 2020 when Jon Veitch\, fuelled by a passion for songwriting\, decided it was time to step into the spotlight. Having played alongside various musicians over the years\, Jon was ready to embark on a new journey. Teaming up with Ben Clark\, a fellow musician and close friend\, they nurtured Jon’s initial songs into something greater. The COVID era\, despite its challenges\, provided fertile ground for their creative vision to grow. Short gigs turned into intense jam sessions\, which in turn birthed tracks that have resonated with audiences. \nBased in the idyllic locales stretching from Yallingup to Cowaramup\, South 76 finds themselves isolated from the bustling music scene of Perth. With three hours separating them from the city\, gigs are a rare treat\, but each performance is infused with the raw energy of their passion for music. The addition of Jake Hugh in 2023\, a Brit drawn to Australia by familial ties\, and Laura Vanhowelingen in early 2024\, brought new dimensions to their sound. \nVeitch\, the creative force behind the band\, handles keys\, guitar\, and lead vocals\, pouring his soul into each performance. Ben\, a teacher by day and a rhythm master by night\, lays down the beat with his drums and percussion. Jake’s guitar skills add layers of depth\, while Laura’s bass lines and vocals provide the perfect complement. Their individual backgrounds and influences merge seamlessly\, resulting in a sound that is uniquely South 76. \nIn 2023\, South 76 experienced a pivotal moment at the Cabin Fever event\, performing at Lenton Brae Winery to a captivated audience. It was here that they realized the potential of their collective talent and the impact of their music. Buoyed by this success\, they set their sights on future tours and seizing every opportunity to share their music with the world. \nWith two projects currently in production and one ready to release\, South 76 is poised to make waves on the Aussie music scene. Under the guidance of producer James Newhouse at Lambchop Studio in Bunbury\, Western Australia\, they’re ready to unleash their signature sound on the world stage. From the coastal shores of Western Australia to the hearts of music lovers everywhere\, South 76 is a band on the rise\, keep an ear out for their new music!

SUMMARY:LEGS ELECTRIC
DESCRIPTION:Legs Electric have for half-a-decade now been one of Australia’s finest hard rock bands – ultra-energetic and always ready to deliver\, the quartet have wowed both national audiences and international rock’n’rollers with whom they’ve shared the stage. \nIt all comes down to good old-fashioned hard work and the fact that each member’s upbringing was soundtracked by a sonic diet of classic rock from the likes of Deep Purple\, Rolling Stones\, Grand Funk Railroad\, Jimi Hendrix\, Fleetwood Mac\, Neil Young\, KISS and more. \nAma Quinsee’s powerhouse vocals originated from “singing the house down with my loud pipes\, putting on my own concerts in the lounge room but still it wasn’t until my late teens that I took my shower-singing ways onto the stage and dabbled in various arts such as drama\, musical theatre and finally arriving at this destination… singing in a rock’n’roll band!” \nAma took to the cover band scene early in her music career\, leading to her original-based rock’n’roll future with Legs Electric. “Those seductive power vocals by the likes of Chrissy Amphlett\, Suze De March and Pat Benatar\, they were always in the setlist and really influenced my style.” \nThe primal drum energy of Kylie Soanes emanates from having a rock’n’roll obsessed Dad and her own preoccupation with Keith Moon. “Then when I was 10 years old Hanson were young kids playing music and I wanted to be better than Zac Hanson\,” she laughs. “A bit embarrassing now but hey\, I was 10! I started drumming at 11 years of age.” \nErin Gooden’s tight basslines spring from a lifelong fascination with the creation of sound\, picking up bass early on then playing trumpet in the WA Youth Jazz . She returned to bass upon entering the rock scene. “Music grounds me in my daily life\,” she says\, “the ability to express yourself through an instrument is second to none.” \nThe epic\, soaring guitar solos of Elana Haynes have their roots in her primal urge to be involved in music. “I needed to be a part of it\,” she explains. “I’ve always enjoyed coming up with little melodies and riffs that can either be developed into a song or just a fleeting comical jingle.” \nThere’s rock and blues sensibilities inside Legs Electric\, along with some pop/melodic nous. The classic rock is in there too\, but it’s authentic and never merely nostalgic. \n“Add one dash of Deep Purple hard rock\, two ounces of Baby Animals attitude and garnish with some Fleetwood Mac harmonies\,” says Ama. “Shaken\, not stirred.” \n“The key would be even though we draw influences from music that we love\, we try and incorporate some of their personal flair into our sound therefore giving it an original sound\,” says Kylie. \nAfter a year proving themselves on stages around Perth\, the band issued their first release\, Legs Electric Maximum Rock ‘N’ Roll EP in 2014. “They were the first five songs we had written as a band\,” Kylie recalls. “We catalogued them in the order of how we had written them\, so that’s kinda cool.” \nIn 2017\, Legs Electric released a second EP called Two Sides. “We recorded two singles with Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe) with our former members (ex-guitarist Laura McCormack and former drummer Abby Soanes\, still very much part of the Legs family) and two singles with Kenny Watt which was a rad way to introduce to you our new members\, Elana and Erin\,” says Ama. \n“A band is like a relationship\,” continues Kylie. “So whoever you bring in has to gel with you personality-wise. Being an all-female act\, they have to be able to work with your musicianship and we’re lucky to have had\, and now found\, some amazing musicians to share the journey with.” \nIn 2019 they released Tuesday Girl\, produced by Simon Hallett. “It was a song we wrote as the new band and a new direction of sound\,” says Ama. “However\, we find our musical make-up is always changing and evolving.” \nThat evolution can easily be observed when you compare the debut EP’s opening track\, Illicit Love\, to the more recent Tuesday Girl single. While the former is very Zeppelin/Purple-influenced and a nod to the classic rock gods\, the latter is more of a throwback to 90’s influences such as Hole and Veruca Salt\, with a touch of Leg’s classic rock sound. “That song is for the ladies who aren’t afraid to stand up and say what they think\,” says Ama. \nMeanwhile\, the Legs Electric live show is where all the proof you need is served – overdriven energy in spades\, whether they’re playing to three people or 3\,000. Each show is played as if it’s their last. \n“We feel energy and excitement the moment we step on stage because we know we have a show to deliver and that we do well as a team\,” says Erin. “Melting makeup\, epic hair flicks and rocking out moments are what we live for and the audience reaction is the best response to what we feel up on stage.” \nAlong the way\, Legs Electric have played some super-impressive support slots for the likes of Shihad\, British India\, Dallas Frasca\, Ali Barter\, Cherie Currie\, Sebastian Bach\, Uriah Heep\, Ace Frehley\, Blues Pills\, The Datsuns\, The Bellrays\, The Baby Animals\, The Superjesus and Wolfmother. They had a date with KISS last November before the tour was cancelled and are still very keen to tick that box one day soon. \n“The relationships that we make from working with international bands is super important\,” says Kylie. “They have all been where we want to be. Some bands that we have played with from the US we are still friends with today and they act as mentors and believe in what we want to achieve and that’s really nice considering they have hit the big time and still want to chat with a band from Perth\, WA.” \n2020 brings a new decade and a new vision for Legs Electric. “We want to take our music to the masses\, rock some festivals and keep the future of girl rock alive!” Ama exclaims. “Our creative direction is in a constant state of change and we have definitely evolved from our classic beginnings and now entering our Boho-Rock phase as we continue to write our new album.” \nThe band are in the process of completing that full-length debut album. The rollercoaster will only become a bigger ride from there. \n“We want to play overseas.” Kylie states. “Take Legs to Europe and the USA and just see what happens. Life is one big risk and a musical adventure!”
