Short & Curly

Short & Curly (WA)

Sunday 22nd October, 3:30pm. Free entry.

Western Australian roots music duo Short & Curly have put seven years and 500 gigs, as far afield as Broome and Melbourne, between the release of their first and second albums.

The new album, Fugitive Souls, has nine of their typically varied, sometimes offbeat original songs, plus their cover of an obscure 1950s rockabilly gem called Stealin' Sugar.

They describe themselves as country/blues/folk, and they blend and bend those styles to have one of their own. A little reggae and doo-wop have also crept into the mix.

Karen 'Curly' Hunt plays semi-acoustic guitar, Steve 'Short' Packer plays harmonica and they both sing.

The artists they cover reflect their diverse influences: Paul Kelly, Lucinda Williams, Old Crow Medicine Show, Michelle Shocked, Johnny Cash, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Memphis Minnie, Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell, The Band, Stray Cats, Everly Brothers… even the Cure.
