Grace Barbe

Grace Barbe (WA)

Saturday 26th November, 9pm. Free entry

Grace Barbe will release a Tony Allen remix of the track Afro-Sega from her Welele! album, accompanied by an animated video clip. The track will be available as a limited edition 12" vinyl pressing and digital download via bandcamp and Itunes.

Tony Allen is one of the greatest drummers on the planet - the man who created Afrobeat with Fela Kuti. 24 years after leaving Fela's band he remains a restless and potent trail blazer for new African musical adventures.

World music diva Grace Barbe is the global ambassador for Indian Ocean music, fusing Afro-rock and reggae with the tropical island rhythms of Seychelles and Mauritius.

Tony expressed an interest in remixing a track after Grace supported him at a Perth festival show a few years back.

He has completely rerecorded the song in Paris with his band, retaining only Grace's vocals from the original recording. With a typically masterful live drumming take, Tony's re-imagining gives Grace's song the authentic Afrobeat flavour.

The remix will be accompanied by a hand drawn video clip by animators Toon Me On and portrays Grace, Tony and band members performing together in classic toon style.

Head on down to Settlers Tavern, Saturday November 26 for a special night of coconut shaking!
