From the West Australian coastal town of Fremantle, this eclectic instrumental outfit have released a number of albums that have found favour with critics and aficionados of instrumental soundtrack music alike.

The Majestic Kelp is considered somewhat of a radical turn in a prolific musical career that has seen Mariani front Perth Garage rock legends The Stems, Power Pop masters DM3 and most recently with the heavy boogie rocking Datura4.

Their debut album "Underwater Casino" appeared in 2003 and proved to be an idyllic escape from the comfortable confines of the surf instrumental genre into a moodier, somewhat more reflective and dense sound-scape of freeform instrumental pieces with nods to The Ventures, Morricone and Serge Gainsbourg.

Their sophomore release "Music To Chase Cars By" (2006) was a raunchier affair teaming stinging guitars and sax over swampy blues jams and psychedelic surf sounds, while third album "Turn Up The Sun" (2013) brought it back to the beach with warm guitar tones, melodic ballads and epic surf soundtracks.

In 2018 sees the release of "Hi Seas" boasting a new line-up which includes mainstays Mariani (guitar) and Stu Loasby (bass). Back in the fold is Steve Mancini (guitar) and the Kelp welcomes young guns Luke Dux (guitar and pedal steel) and drummer Todd Pickett into the fold.

Recorded and mixed at Real2Reel Studios in in the summer of '17, the album boasts a range of styles from the creeping percussive mystery of The Spider and the Sailor to the mellow seductive mood of Sweet Dee to the full-blown hazy and downright lysergic title track and the uptempo chug of highway ode Freeway Ace. Produced and mixed by Mariani and James Newhouse 'Hi-Seas' is take us across an exotic journey over land, sea and beyond.

"Hi Seas' will be available to download on iTunes, limited edition CD through Invisible Records in March and limited edition vinyl through U.K. label Sugar Rush Records in May.
